South Africa / Makhado, Limpopo Province / Now I must think about the baby. Tsitsi Makwiyana, age 17 asylum-seeker from Zimbabwe and her one week old baby, Desmond. She came to South Africa because she wanted to continue her studies. She completed Form 4 in Zimbabwe but her parents did not have the money for her to go on. While on the way to South Africa, Tsitsi was a victim of sexual violence. She then found out she was pregnant with Desmond. She has not yet told her mother she has a son. Many Zimbabweans girls dont tell their parents about the baby. I think if I told my mother, she wouldnt be happy but she would accept us, sighs Tsitsi. She will stay in Makhado and get a job because she has help to take care of the baby. I cant think about what happened to me because now I must think about the baby.
